Ravens: NFL found evidence Jimmy Smith threatened, emotionally abused ex-girlfriend

By Vincent Frank

The NFL announced earlier on Tuesday that Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith has been suspended for the first four games of the 2018 season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

We now have more information regarding the suspension and what brought it on. Needless to say, said information is damning for the veteran defensive back.

In a statement since released by the Ravens, it’s noted that the “NFL found¬†evidence of threatening and emotionally abusive behaviors by Jimmy toward his former girlfriend that showed a pattern of improper conduct.”

The organization also said that it will welcome Smith back following the suspension, primarily because he’s admitted fault.

Smith’s ex-girlfriend had previously alleged that he engaged in a pattern of abusive behavior. That’s the same conclusion both the NFL and the Ravens have come to.

If it were all about optics and PR, Smith’s career with the Ravens would likely be over following this suspension. Alas, he’s the best corner on the team and can help it win. We know what happens in those situations.
