Rams sign Pro Bowl LB Clay Matthews to two-year contract

The Los Angeles Rams have added yet another veteran to their defensive core. After signing Pro Bowl safety Eric Weddle earlier in free agency, Los Angeles doubled down Tuesday with Southern California native Clay Matthews.

The deal can be worth up to $16.75 million over two seasons for the former USC standout.

Matthews, 33, had been with his original Green Bay Packers team throughout the first 10 years of his career. A six-time Pro Bowler, Matthews’ production has been on the decline for some time now.

In fact, he’s recorded a grand total of 11 sacks over the past two seasons. That comes on the heels of Matthews tallying double-digit sacks four times over the first eight years of his career.

Though, this does give Los Angeles more edge pass rush depth to go with the recently re-signed Dante Fowler Jr.
