The 2020 NFL Draft in Las Vegas promises to perhaps be the most epic event in the city’s illustrious history but those who serve and protect the city of 2.5 million aren’t on board – yet.

The Las Vegas Police Protective Association, which represents Las Vegas police officers, said the hours required to work the event violate and agreement between it and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Metro announced last month blackout dates for vacations, leave and out-of-state travel from April 22 through April 26 during the time the draft will be hosted in Las Vegas.

The union representing Las Vegas’ police force has filed a formal complaint regarding the restrictions regarding time off during the NFL Draft in April 2020.

The LVPPA has filed the complaint alleging this does violate the group’s current contract with the law enforcement agency. The association is calling it an unfair labor practice in its complaint.

Metro has said the event and the number of people visiting the area will equal or surpass New Year’s Eve when traditionally 250,000 visitors crowd The Strip. This will mean an unprecedented amount of security needs and the need for “all hands on deck” for the city’s police force.

No comment was available from the NFL or the Raiders.
