Could the Pittsburgh Steelers end up getting a top QB prospect with their pick at 21 in April’s NFL Draft? One team insider believes it is a very real possibility next month.
Despite winning 10 games each of the last two seasons, there isn’t a huge amount of excitement about the Steelers heading into the 2025 season. That’s because despite the team having a good roster, quarterback is not a strength for the franchise.

In 2024, the team used both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson at quarterback. And the pair of veteran signal callers both had a level of success during their stints as the starter. However, neither excelled in a way to take Pittsburgh beyond being just a playoff team. It puts the Steelers in a tough position where they could bring either back in 2025, but there is no reason to believe they can take them to the promised land in the years ahead.
That is why there has been speculation Pittsburgh could use their top pick in April on a quarterback of the future. However, the chance of an elite prospect falling to them at 21 in Round 1 seemed unlikely a few weeks ago. Well, that may no longer be the case.
Could Shedeur Sanders fall to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Round 1 of the NFL Draft?

In recent days, reports continue to emerge about draft evaluators around the NFL souring on Colorado star Shedeur Sanders. But could Sanders fall to Pittsburgh at 21? The Athletic Steelers reporter Mike DeFabo seems to think so.
“Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart has been rising up draft boards through this process after a strong Senior Bowl and a solid performance at the combine,” DeFabo wrote. “If he leapfrogs Sanders to become QB2, that could push the Colorado QB down the board.”

DeFabo claims the Steelers “might have a winning lottery ticket” if Sanders falls to them. And he believes head coach Mike Tomlin has a clear track record in recent years that makes it seem likely he would cash that ticket in April.
“It’s also worth noting that coach Mike Tomlin is a fan of players with NFL bloodlines,” DeFabo wrote. “The Steelers have drafted (or signed) many such players, including Cameron Heyward, Connor Heyward, T.J. Watt, Terrell Edmunds and Nick Herbig. Perhaps the coach will feel similarly about Deion Sanders’ son.”
