The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached agreement on a one-year contract with defensive-minded catcher Roberto Perez, according to reports, one day after trading away Gold Glove backstop Jacob Stallings.

The deal guarantees Perez $5 million, per ESPN.

Perez, 32, is a career .206 hitter and hit just .149 in 2021, but he’s a two-time Gold Glove winner. He has spent his entire eight-year career in Cleveland but the team declined a $7 million option on Perez after last season.

The Pirates were in need of a catcher after trading Stallings to Miami for pitcher Zach Thompson and two prospects on Monday.

Perez snagged Gold Glove awards in 2019 and 2020. Injuries limited him to 44 games last season.
