The Philadelphia Phillies claimed outfielder Oscar Mercado off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians on Monday.

Mercado, who was designated for assignment on June 21, batted .202 with four homers and 16 RBIs in 49 games this season with Cleveland.

Mercado, 27, has started at all three outfield positions and is a career .235 hitter with 26 homers, 95 RBIs and 27 stolen bases in 272 games with the Indians since 2019.

The Phillies cleared room on the 40-man roster by placing left-hander Damon Jones on the 60-day injured list with a left shoulder impingement. A spot on the 26-man roster will be cleared when Mercado reports.

Philadelphia placed two-time MVP outfielder Bryce Harper on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a fractured left thumb. There is no timetable for his return.
