Philadelphia Phillies place Jean Segura on IL, recall Scott Kingery

The Philadelphia Phillies placed second baseman Jean Segura on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a strained right quadriceps.

Segura, 31, is batting .333 with four doubles and five RBIs in 17 games this season. The two-time All-Star is a career .285 hitter with 84 homers and 406 RBIs in 1,116 games over 10 seasons with five teams.

The Phillies also recalled infielder Scott Kingery and right-hander Spencer Howard from the alternate training site, and optioned right-hander Ramon Rosso to the site at Lehigh Valley.

Kingery, 26, batted .159 in 36 games with Philadelphia last season and owns a career .233 clip with 30 homers and 96 RBIs in 309 games since 2018.

Howard, 24, allowed a run on two hits in one inning of relief against the New York Mets on April 13, his only outing of the season so far.

Rosso, 24, made his season debut in Tuesday’s 10-7 loss to the San Francisco Giants, surrendering one hit in 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
