The Philadelphia Phillies designated right-hander Neftali Feliz for assignment Thursday, potentially ending the former Rookie of the Year’s brief comeback attempt.

Feliz, 33, was pitching in the majors for the first time since 2017 when he gave up a grand slam to Nick Castellanos in a 12-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Monday.

Feliz was charged with three runs on two hits in 2/3 of an inning in that game, then allowed another run on two hits in 1/3 of an inning in Wednesday’s 11-6 loss to the Miami Marlins.

He is 0-1 with a 36.00 ERA in two appearances.

Feliz was the American League Rookie of the Year and an All-Star in 2010 as the closer for the Texas Rangers.

He owns a 21-20 record with 107 saves and a 3.57 ERA in 359 appearances (seven starts) with the Rangers (2009-15), Detroit Tigers (2015), Pittsburgh Pirates (2016), Milwaukee Brewers (2017), Kansas City Royals (2017) and Phillies.

In a corresponding transaction, Philadelphia reinstated right-hander Brandon Kintzler from the 10-day injured list.

Kintzler is 2-1 with an 8.50 ERA in 20 relief appearances this season. He landed on the IL on June 8 with a strained neck.
