Philadelphia Eagles make surprise signing of 7-time Pro Bowler to bolster offense

The Philadelphia Eagles are already one of the best teams in the NFL in 2023 and they made a surprising move to bolster their already rock-solid offense on Tuesday.

The Philadelphia Eagles head into their Week 7 game against AFC powerhouse the Miami Dolphins tied for the best record in football (5-1). After coming up just short of a Super Bowl title earlier this year, the team has been able to maintain the standard of the top-shelf defense and offense they had last season.

However, after suffering a surprise loss on the road in Week 6 to the New York Jets, clearly, there are areas of the roster that could still be improved to increase their chances of getting back to the Super Bowl this season. That is why they made a surprise move to give recently struggling star quarterback Jalen Hurts another weapon in the passing game.

On Tuesday afternoon, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter was one of the first to report that “Seven-time Pro-Bowl WR Julio Jones is signing a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, per sources. Jones will be reunited with his former Titans’ teammate, AJ Brown, who pushed for Tennessee to trade for him from Atlanta.”

  • Julio Jones stats (Career): 903 catches, 13,629 yards, 63 TD, 87.9 YPG

“Along with playing with Brown in Tennessee, Jones also previously played with Eagles’ WR Olamide Zaccheaus when the two were together from 2019-2020 in Atlanta,” Schefter added.

The Eagles are dealing with some depth issues in their receiving corps. and the future Hall-of-Famer would definitely help, especially since he has some unique ties to the roster already.

Jones has dealt with injury issues in recent years and played in just five games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. However, his recent woes follow a stellar career that landed the 34-year-old in the top 15 to 25 in several key all-time receiving categories, including 13,629 yards during a career spent with the Falcons, Titans, and Bucs.
