Pete Carroll: Dwight Freeney ‘ready to go’ Sunday

Just days after signing on with the Seattle Seahawks, veteran pass rusher Dwight Freeney will be playing this Sunday against the Houston Texans.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll made it clear the team has “no hesitation” to play Freeney, who just signed a one-year deal on Tuesday night.

Freeney was signed, in part, to fill the void left by the absence of Cliff Avril. Avril is out for the season with a neck injury, and there have been reports his injury could be career-ending.

Freeney had been unsigned since Super Bowl LI when he was a member of the NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons. He recorded eight sacks with Arizona in 2015, three for Atlanta last season and has recorded 122.5 sacks over the course of his career, which places Freeney at No. 18 in NFL history.
