The Zion effect: Pelicans see increase in season tickets

The mood late this season in New Orleans was not exactly friendly. As the Pelicans closed up shop on a disastrous season and with star big man Anthony Davis requesting a trade, fans in the Bayou needed some good news.

They got that Tuesday night when New Orleans shockingly obtained the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft — presumably to land Zion Williamson.

Less than 24 hours after the lottery, the Pelicans are already seeing a major boost in interest from their fan base. That includes 3,000 season tickets being sold during this span.

Even with Davis still wanting out of New Orleans, excitement for this product is going to be real during the 2019-20 season.

Williamson will enter the NBA as the biggest name since LeBron James. In turn, the futures of multiple teams around the Association changed on a dime during the draft lottery. That’s no more true than in New Orleans.
