Pelicans announce Zion Williamson has signed rookie contract

Zion Williamson Rookie of the Year

Zion Williamson is officially a member of the New Orleans Pelicans now that he’s signed his rookie contract, as the team announced on Monday. Terms of the deal were not announced, per team policy.

The former Duke star was the first overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft and will instantly become the face of the franchise after the Pelicans traded Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers.

As a freshman for the Blue Devils last season in college, Williamson wowed the basketball world on a nightly basis with high-flying dunks and his eye-popping defensive prowess.

He averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks per game appearing in 33 games for Duke. Williamson shined during the postseason as well, averaging 26.4 points and 9.1 rebounds.
