Patriots’ interest in Lamar Jackson reportedly ‘legit’

Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is one of the most intriguing players in the 2018 NFL draft

The New England Patriots have been rumored to be eyeing quarterback Lamar Jackson pretty hard for weeks now, and new information on this front does nothing to change this narrative.

Jenny Vrentas of The MMQB noted on Wednesday that the Patriots had two private workouts with Jackson recently. Responding to that note, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network added that the Patriots’ interest in Jackson “is legit.”

What’s really great about all this is that, despite what many believe, Jackson actually has more experience working with a pro-style offense than most of the quarterbacks in the draft. His offense at Louisville with Bobby Petrino is actually very similar to the one run by Josh McDaniels in New England, so it would be a great fit from that perspective.

We also know that the Patriots have not shied away from going with athletic quarterbacks in recent years, with Jacoby Brissett being a great, recent example of this.

If the Patriots do draft Jackson, the young man knows he could learn the fundamentals from the GOAT, and he actually thinks he could teach Brady something, too.
