New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton entered Sunday’s Week 17 action against the New York Jets having thrown a total of five touchdowns in 14 starts this season. He was just recently benched and will likely be one-and-done in New England.

This didn’t stop the former NFL MVP from making waves in an otherwise meaningless season finale between two bottom feeders. With the Patriots down 14-7 in the third quarter, Newton caught a 19-yard pass from wide receiver Jakobi Meyers for a touchdown.

Given that the Patriots lack any type of real talent at wide receiver with Julian Edelman sidelined, a joke could be made that Cam Newton is now their WR1.

As much as Newton has struggled this season in New England, the team has not really done him any favors. We’re talking about one of the most talent-stricken offenses in the entire NFL.

It is still stunning that the former No. 1 pick has now thrown six touchdowns in 15 starts. That’s impressively bad. As for the Cam Newton touchdown catch, the NFL world had its reactions.

If this is indeed the final game we’ll see of Cam Newton in New England, he’s going out with a bang. Whether that translates to a starting opportunity once free agency comes calling remains to be seen.

One thing we do know. Newton is all about those style points.
