Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes may have lost the head-to-head duel in Super Bowl LV against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Mahomes broke TB12’s record for the most expensive rookie card sale of all-time.

Massive trading card marketplace PWCC reported Wednesday that Mahomes’ 2017 Chiefs rookie card sold for a whopping $4.3 million — easily shattering the mark set by Brady’s $3.1 million from his 2000 New England Patriots card:

The fact that Mahomes is so highly valued right now is telling. Kansas City’s superstar already owns the richest contract in NFL history in anticipation of what he’s going to still accomplish on the gridiron, and the cost of his rookie card reflects the belief that Mahomes will go down as one of the biggest legends ever.

If there’s anyone who can eventually challenge Brady as the undisputed GOAT at the quarterback position, Mahomes seems to fit the bill.

Already armed with a league and Super Bowl MVP award, along with two Super Bowl appearances and three berths in the AFC Championship Game, the Chiefs have the makings of a dynasty with Mahomes under center. It’s just a matter of Mahomes staying healthy, staying on the grind and maintaining his elite level of play.

The latest Super Bowl odds give Mahomes and the Chiefs favorite status to win the Lombardi Trophy over Brady and the Bucs. This is despite the fact that Kansas City will deploy four new starters on an offensive line that broke down in KC’s 31-9 Super Bowl LV loss to Tampa Bay.

Meanwhile, Brady’s side returns all offensive and defensive starters from last year’s team, which was coming together on the fly in Tom Terrific’s first NFL season away from New England.

Could we be in for another Brady-Mahomes duel in the NFL’s grand finale? The bigger-picture question is, will Mahomes ultimately come close to matching or eclipsing Brady’s seven Super Bowl victories?
