The NFL becomes a more passing-friendly league each year and a new rule proposal to create an alternative to the onside kick could be another step toward that in 2020. Now with the measure moving closer to happening, the NFL’s top quarterback has weighed in with the perfect response.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is used to making incredible plays in clutch moments. Now, with the NFL considering allowing teams to replace the onside kick with a 4th-and-15 attempt, Mahomes’ ears are already perking up at the possibility of more chances to create magic.

Under the proposed rule, the kicking team would be given the ball at their 25-yard line. If the offense converts the 4th-and-15 attempt, they get to keep the football at the dead-ball spot for the next possession. If they fail to convert the down, the opposing team will get the football.

While the Philadelphia Eagles submitted the rule, it seems perfect for the Chiefs. Mahomes is a maestro in the pocket with the ability to roll around until he slings the football in just the right spot for a big play. A team could only attempt this twice a game, that could create two additional possessions for a great offense.

The Chiefs were already viewed as the favorites to win Super Bowl LV. If this rule passes next week, a team that looked unstoppable could get even scarier in 2020.
