After spending seven seasons with the team and earning a Super Bowl title, James Starks is no longer a member of the Green Bay Packers. Mere days after the 2016 NFL season came to a conclusion, the Packers have released Starks with an injury designation.

Starks, 30, missed the final six games of the 2016 season after suffering a concussion in a car accident. Prior to that unfortunate situation, he really didn’t play a central role in the Packers’ offense, rushing for just 145 yards in nine games.

Starks’ best season with Green Bay came in 2015 when he filled in admirably for the injured Eddie Lacy. The veteran recorded nearly 1,000 total yards with five touchdowns while averaging north of four yards per rush.

Considering Starks’ release came with an injury designation, there’s a decent chance Green Bay might want to bring him back at a lower cost. He was set to count $3.6 million against the cap next season.
