Frank Ruggeri is a 16-year-old from upstate New York, and he thinks the NFL should ditch Super Bowl Sunday in favor of Super Bowl Saturday.

He felt so strongly about this that he created a Change.org petition, which has since garnered well over 21,000 signees as of this writing.

Now, before you launch yourself straight into the comments section to rip this idea, Ruggeri has actually thought this through and has some interesting evidence to support the idea that the Super Bowl would actually be better on Saturday than Sunday.

Per CNN (yes, this story is getting to be pretty huge), “Frankie started researching statistics to make his Super Bowl Saturday case stronger. He learned some compelling things. In 2019, a survey found more than 17 million US employees may miss work the day after the Super Bowl LII, according to The Workforce Institute.”

Additionally, Ruggeri believes that having a Super Bowl Saturday would lead to fewer driving fatalities after the game when people are intoxicated, because on a Saturday night you can stay where you are overnight without having to get up for work or school the next morning.

So, while Super Bowl Sunday is a national institution, perhaps Saturdays would be better off overall. We’re just not going to hold our breath waiting for it to happen.
