Adley Rutschman homered, Ryan Mountcastle drove in two runs and Jordan Lyles pitched six strong innings to lead the host Baltimore Orioles to a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday.

The Orioles, who have won five in a row for the first time since winning six straight from Aug. 7-13, 2020, also got two hits from Anthony Santander.

The Orioles took a 1-0 lead on Rutschman’s solo home run to right in the second. Baltimore extended the lead to 2-0 an inning later on Mountcastle’s double that scored Santander.

That’s all Lyles (5-7) needed. After he got Luis Rengifo to fly out to right with the bases loaded and two outs in the first inning, Lyles allowed just one runner past second base until he was relieved by Joey Krehbiel after Michael Stefanic doubled to open the seventh.

Kurt Suzuki’s sacrifice fly to center scored Stefanic, trimming the lead to 4-1.

Lyles yielded a run on five hits to go along with four strikeouts and two walks to pick up his first win since June 14.

After Jorge Mateo and Cedric Mullins opened the fifth with singles, Angels starter Chase Silseth (1-3) was relieved by Andrew Wantz, who gave up a run-scoring single to Trey Mancini and a sacrifice fly by Mountcastle that scored Mullins for a 4-0 lead.

Silseth allowed four runs on six hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

Jorge Lopez pitched a scoreless ninth for his 15th save of the season.

Every Oriole in the starting lineup reached safely in the series opener, with Santander leading the way by going 2-for-4 with a run.

The Angels, who got two hits from Jonathan Villar, lost for the fifth time in their past six games.
