OBJ says Giants will play in Super Bowl 51

The New York Giants have high expectations for the upcoming season, and Odell Beckham Jr. expects nothing but the pinnacle of success. Speaking to kids at his inaugural football camp, OBJ promised a trip to the Super Bowl for Big Blue.

“Go Giants! Super Bowl 51 in Houston. We will be there,” Beckham Jr. said, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com

That’s not all he said, mind you. Beckham Jr. also had plenty of inspirational thoughts to share, including this awesome nugget: “Whatever their goals are, just chase them. Nobody can tell you what you can and can’t do.”

Back to OBJ’s Super Bowl statement, there is no doubt the Giants have some intriguing pieces on both sides of the ball. But by no means is this team locked and loaded for a deep postseason run, let alone a lock to make the playoffs at all.

Even with all the money the Giants threw at defense in free agency, it remains to be seen if their investments will pay off. Olivier Vernon could potentially be a star, but he’s quite unproven over the long haul. And cornerback Janoris Jenkins tends to get burned badly, which could be bad news considering the team’s safeties aren’t tremendous at covering the back end.

Furthermore, the NFC East is always a crap shoot, and the Giants are coming off a 6-10 season.

It’s a bit hasty of Beckham Jr. to be promising a Super Bowl berth. Even if he’s saying it to a bunch of kids — heck, especially saying it to a bunch of kids, who might actually take him for his word.
