NYCFC, LAFC each place three on MLS All-Star team

Defending MLS Cup champion New York City FC and 2022 Supporters’ Shield leaders Los Angeles FC each placed three players on the 26-man MLS All-Star roster announced Tuesday.

Forward Valentin Castellanos, defender Alexander Callens and goaltender Sean Johnson will represent NYCFC, and forward Carlos Vela, midfielder Ilie Sanchez and defender Diego Palacios will represent LAFC.

The 2022 MLS All-Stars will face the best of Liga MX on Aug. 10 at 8:30 p.m. ET in Saint Paul, Minn.

Austin FC midfielder Sebastian Driussi is the first All-Star selection in franchise history.

The complete list of MLS All-Stars, broken down alphabetically by position with team in parentheses:

Forwards/wingers: Paul Arriola (FC Dallas), Castellanos, Jesus Ferreira (FC Dallas), Taxiarchis Fountas (D.C. United), Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez (LA Galaxy), Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders), Raul Ruidiaz (Seattle Sounders) and Vela.

Midfielders: Luciano Acosta (FC Cincinnati), Driussi, Carles Gil (New England Revolution), Hany Mukhtar (Nashville SC), Darlington Nagbe (Columbus Crew), Emanuel Reynoso (Minnesota United FC) and Sanchez.

Defenders: Julian Araujo (LA Galaxy), Callens, Aaron Long (New York Red Bulls), Kamal Miller (CF Montreal), Palacios, Kai Wagner (Philadelphia Union), DeAndre Yedlin (Inter Miami CF) and Walker Zimmerman (Nashville SC).

Goaltenders: Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union), Johnson and Dayne St. Clair (Minnesota United FC).
