Notre Dame and Arkansas set to meet for first time ever in 2020

Notre Dame and Arkansas have never met on a college football field. That’s an amazing thing to think about considering just how good both programs have been throughout their histories.

This will also change in 2020, with the Irish and Razorbacks scheduling a home-and-home series in 2020 and 2025.

“It’s remarkable to think our historic programs have never met, but we are excited that this will change in the near future as we add the University of Notre Dame to our football schedules in 2020 and 2025,” Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long said Thursday, via NBC Sports. “This series will benefit our football program, our university and the Southeastern Conference, but more importantly it is an opportunity for our football student-athletes to compete against one of college football’s storied programs while providing a premier match-up for our fans.”

The first game in this series will be played in South Bend in September of 2020. Notre Dame will then head to the Razorbacks’ home in 2025.

Arkansas boasts the 23rd-most wins in college football history and has been taking to the gridiron since 1894. Notre Dame started playing a decade before that and boasts 11 national titles to its name. Again, it’s simply amazing the two programs have yet to meet up to this point.

Let’s just hope both squads are worthy of the build-up the first game in 2020 is likely to bring.
