North Carolina freshman big man Day’Ron Sharpe declared for the NBA Draft on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-11 forward took to social media to make the announcement and to thank the Tar Heels for “believing that I would be a great addition to the team.”
“I feel that I’m now ready for the next level,” Sharpe posted, in part. “I’ve made it this far and there’s no reason for me to stop now! … I will be declaring for the NBA Draft with high hopes for the support of my Carolina Family.”
Sharpe averaged 9.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 19.2 minutes per game in 29 contests (four starts) for the Tar Heels, who were eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last week. He was the team’s fourth-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder.
Sharpe was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team after shooting 51.9 percent from the floor. Sharpe finished second in ACC Freshman of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year voting.
