William Nylander signs 8-year, $92 million contract with Maple Leafs

William Nylander signed an eight-year, $92 million contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.

The contract has an average annual value of $11.5 million, the second-highest AAV on the Maple Leafs behind Auston Matthews ($13.25 million beginning next season).

The 27-year-old forward leads the Maple Leafs and is tied for fifth in the NHL with 54 points (21 goals, 33 assists) in 37 games. He had an NHL career-high 87 points (40 goals, 47 assists) in 82 games last season.

The No. 8 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, Nylander has four goals and six points in his past three games. He has 16 multi-point games this season and began the 2023-24 campaign with a Maple Leafs-record 17-game point streak.

He’s played in 558 games with Toronto, accumulating 484 points (198 goals, 286 assists).

Nylander is the latest big-ticket signing for the Maple Leafs.

Last August, Matthews signed a four-year, $53 million extension that takes effect with the 2024-25 season.

Forwards John Tavares ($11 million) and Mitchell Marner ($10.9 million) also carry cap hits of more than $10 million. Tavares and Marner each can be an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season.
