Washington Capitals News
The Capitals just finished a four-game homestand where the team went 3-1. Washington is coming off a stellar 4-1 home victory over the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night. Next up for the Caps is a back-to-back on Friday and Saturday. First up is a road contest against the Columbus Blue Jackets, followed by a home game against the Ottawa Senators.
One of the highlights so far this season is the play of rookie Ryan Leonard. The 20-year-old has recorded three goals in the first seven games of the season. One of them was a power-play goal while another was a game-winner. Leonard currently leads Washington with 2.08 goals per 60 while averaging 12:21 minutes a night. If he keeps this type of play going, he’ll be a surefire Calder Trophy candidate.
In other news, Pierre-Luc Dubois will travel with the team to Columbus with the possibility of returning to play. Dubois has missed the last four games with a lower-body injury.
However, one Caps player who will not be traveling to Columbus is Rasmus Sandin, who is dealing with an upper-body injury. He is listed as day-to-day, as head coach Spencer Carbery said that Sandin’s injury is not long term.
Meanwhile, Washington placed forward Sheldon Rempal on waivers on Thursday. Rempal is currently playing with the AHL’s Hershey Bears. Per the Capitals, the team accommodated his request to terminate his contract so that he could pursue playing opportunities overseas.
