This past Saturday’s Capitals home contest vs. the Ottawa Senators was Alex Ovechkin’s 1,500th career game. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned as Washington fell by the score of 7-1.

The contest got real ugly early on when Dylan Strome went down with a lower-body injury. He got tied up with Ottawa’s Artem Zub and slid into the end boards while Jakob Chychrun fell on his leg. Fortunately, the injury is not too serious as the Capitals listed Strome as day-to-day on Monday.

As a result, Ethen Frank was recalled from Hershey, while Connor McMichael is replacing Strome on the first line alongside Alex Ovechkin and Ryan Leonard.

Also, Rasmus Sandin was placed on injured reserve to make room for Frank on the roster. Both Strome and Sandin will stay home instead of traveling to Dallas to face the Stars on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Washington signed forward Brett Leason to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will carry an AAV of $775,000 at the NHL level and $250,000 in the AHL. The Capitals placed Leason on waivers for the purpose of loaning him to the Bears.

Leason, 26, was originally selected by Washington in the second round (56th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft. Since then, he made his NHL debut with the franchise in 2021 and has spent the past three seasons with the Anaheim Ducks.

There are a few teams the Florida Panthers truly get up to play. The Vegas Golden Knights are right up there, if not at the top of that list. We get it. The Panthers know at the road ahead and are not all that excited to be playing games in October. [Florida Panthers]

The Avalanche’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Florida Panthers was their fourth game to end past regulation. They’ve lost every single one. [Colorado Avalanche]
