Washington Capitals stars Tom Wilson and Logan Thompson will head home with silver medals. Team Canada fell to USA 2-1 in OT in the Gold Medal Game on Sunday.

Jack Hughes scored the golden goal in the 3-on-3 sudden death period, burying a one-timer past Jordan Binnington. It’s the first gold medal for the Americans in men’s hockey since 1980.

Matt Boldy scored the first goal of the game for USA six minutes into the opening period. Then, Cale Makar sent the puck past Connor Hellebuyck to tie it at 1-1 late in the middle frame.

The third period featured both teams having multiple chances to score before heading to overtime.

Back in 2010, Sidney Crosby scored the golden goal for the Canadians to beat USA in OT. Unfortunately for Canada, the Pittsburgh Penguins legend wasn’t on the ice this time around due to his injury.

Wilson finishes the Winter Olympics with one goal and three assists for four points in six games. As for Thompson, he started only one game and stopped 24 of 25 shots for a .960 save percentage and the win.

Meanwhile, Martin Fehervary and Slovakia finished fourth after falling to Finland in the Bronze Medal Game.

All three Capitals will make their return to D.C. as the team faces the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
