After a dud of a home loss on Saturday, the Washington Capitals (6-4-0) ventured south to Texas to face the Dallas Stars (6-3-1).

Unfortunately, the Capitals dropped their second contest in a row with a 1-0 shutout loss.

Washington had multiple chances to score but the puck luck was just not on their side. Stars goalie Jake Oettinger stopped all 24 of the Caps’ shots to record his first shutout of the season.

The lone goal in the contest came in the second period from Tyler Sequin on the power play. Seguin’s pass to Jason Robertson was deflected off the stick of Martin Fehervary and into the net.

Meanwhile, Logan Thompson did all he could as he stopped 18 of 19 shots. He made some impressive saves, but the one goal he gave up was the difference.

“I think a lot of what we did out there for a majority of the game, especially in the second and third period, we did a lot of good things,” said Washington head coach Spencer Carbery. “Control play, had majority of the looks. Just didn’t convert on them tonight.”

Next up for Washington is another weekend back-to-back. This Friday on Halloween, the Capitals return home to host the New York Islanders. Then on Saturday, Nov. 1, they head up to western New York to visit the Buffalo Sabres.

Capitals Analysis

The Capitals were without the injured Dylan Strome on the first line and it showed. For Tuesday night, the team’s first line trio was Alex Ovechkin-Connor McMichael-Ryan Leonard.

McMichael and Pierre-Luc Dubois looked good out on the ice, but Strome really fuels this offense and the team was really missing him.

Oettinger has proven himself to be one of the best goaltenders in the NHL today. In fact, he has owned Washington and is now 6-0 all-time against the franchise.

Washington also struggled when it came to special teams. The Capitals haven’t exactly been that impressive on the power play or penalty kill through their first 10 games of the season.

Washington went 0-for-3 on the man advantage, as they failed to score on a late third-period power play to tie the game.

The Capitals ended up taking four penalties, three of which were in the offensive zone. Despite the team showing a stronger PK in Dallas, an unlucky bounce was the difference.

It all happened when Tyler Seguin set up a pass to Jason Robertson in front of the net. But Seguin’s pass deflected off of Fehervary’s stick as he was trying to break it up.

Despite the end result, Washington actually outshot Dallas 24-19, as a few shot attempts hit the post. Aliaksei Protas ended up leading the Capitals with six shots, while Jakob Chychrun was right behind him with four.

Capitals Report Card

Team: B

The Capitals did try their best and attempted shots that rang off the post. Unfortunately, puck luck just wasn’t in their favor and the team was really missing Strome on the ice.

Anthony Beauvillier-Hendrix Lapierre-Ethen Frank: B

Washington’s third line of Beauvillier-Lapierre-Frank actually played well. The trio generated some opportunities, as Lapierre hit the post and created time and space in the offensive zone.

Capitals Special Teams: D

The Caps went 0-for-3 on the power play as they haven’t been all that stellar on the man advantage lately. The penalty kill did work for the most part despite the terrible puck luck that time.

Logan Thompson: B

Thompson did all he could. That one goal he gave up doesn’t define him. Though I’m sure he wished he got the W in his 50th game as a Capital.
