Good morning, folks. The Vegas Golden Knights’ ninth season begins in 80 days. They’ve got one of the most predetermined rosters they’ve ever had, which leaves little room for training camp challengers. There is one position the Golden Knights may need to address before Opening Night. To fill that void, there’s a New Jersey Devils trade target that would make too much sense.

Elsewhere in the Daily Nuggets, changes are coming to the EBUG system under the new CBA. Arbitration hearings begin today for the seven RFAs who remain unsigned. Finally, there have been quite a few retirement announcements over the last few days. If you don’t want to start your Sunday morning feeling old, well… you’ve been warned.

For the Golden Knights, puck drop for the 2025-26 season is scheduled for October 8th. It’s over two months away, but we’ve got a pretty good idea of how their Opening Night roster will look. After adding Mitch Marner and keeping their top Free Agents, the Golden Knights don’t have many vacant roster spots.

The one issue the Golden Knights need to address is the inexperience at the backup goaltending position. Akira Schmid has played just 48 NHL games and is extremely inconsistent. Could a New Jersey Devils goaltender be the answer to the Golden Knights’ goaltending problem?

NHL News, Rumors, & National Hockey Now

The Athletic ($): From the Original Six franchises to the Utah Mammoth, every NHL team’s jerseys have a history. On that same note, every team’s jersey history has had highs and lows– some higher and lower than others. Here’s a definitive list of all 32 NHL teams’ best and worst jerseys throughout the years.

The Athletic ($): Under the new CBA, changes to the EBUG system are coming. This will remove some of the viral moments, like how the Senators’ EBUG had to sprint to the arena carrying his gear to beat out the traffic last season, or how the Maple Leafs lost to a 40-year-old Zamboni driver who worked for them. However, it’s for the best, and it’s been a long time coming.

Sportsnet: Get ready to feel old, because this is the most recent of three retirement announcements. On Saturday, former Winnipeg Jets captain Blake Wheeler announced his retirement from the NHL. That leaves just two remaining active players who played for the Atlanta Thrashers– can you name them both?

Mayor’s Manor: Per John Hoven, Los Angeles Kings captain Anže Kopitar isn’t expected to sign an extension. The 2025-26 season will be his last in the NHL.

Boston Hockey Now: Two-time William M. Jennings Trophy winner Jaroslav Halák is retiring from the NHL.

New York Islanders Hockey Now: Most teams have dealt with their Restricted Free Agents; those who haven’t will go to arbitration. The Isles are one of these teams, and RFA Maxim Tsyplakov remains unsigned. Hearings are set to begin Sunday and run through August 5th.
