The New York Islanders had been playing some uninspired hockey over their five periods. Starting with a three-period blunder against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, a 3-0 loss, the Islnaders could not generate much through two periods against the Calgary Flames.
But in the final period, things clicked thanks to the elevated play of Mathew Barzal and the Islanders found a way to erase a two-goal deficit within 59 seconds before eventually winning in overtime to complete the comeback.

Starting to get a very good vibe on this team. Digging Lambert as coach too. (@brice22_)
Will Barzal ever score? At least he has 14 assists. Is he really going to get around 70 assists this year and single-digit goals? (@JPDSalazar)
Not a healthy long-term solution (@DynoDangle)
Sorokin was awesome tonight. Came up big tonight. (@EllenOn45874401)
This was Lamberts best-coached game in his young career. He saw who was playing poorly and didn’t play them. Wally and Aho specifically. Saw what was working and ran with it. Very promising. (@Brittman631).
