East Meadow, NY– They may no longer play for the New York Islanders, but Pierre Turgeon and Thomas Hickey still deeply care about the organization and its success.
“He’s going to be demanding,” Turgeon said. “He expects a lot from his players, and he’s hard on himself too. He’s going to do something good with a team here. He’s got a passion for coaching. He’s proven that he’s able to do it in the NHL and juniors. I’m glad to see he’s a coach for the New York Islanders. ”
As an analyst for MSG Network, Hickey gets an up close and personal view of Roy every night. From his vantage point, there’s no denying the team is playing with a new sense of vigor.
“It’s the intensity that they’re playing with,” Hickey said. “It’s professional hockey, you’d expect that that’s the bare minimum. The reality is it’s a long season, and you have to push the right buttons. I think for this group, to have some to push them to that next level, it looks like it’s making a difference right now.”
You get every feeling that you could imagine. Let’s be honest, any coach, I’m not talking specifically about what’s happened in my career or in the future, you’re going to have guys that are excited because maybe it’s a new lease on their careers. You’re going to have excitement within the group.
“What he’s done in the past, I don’t think it matters,” Turgeon said. “He’s looking ahead. He’s looking at what he’s able to do with the team. That’s how he is. He’s going to spend the hours he needs to at the rink to make sure everything is going well.”
