East Meadow, NY– The New York Islanders have mutually agreed to part ways with head coach Lane Lambert and named __ as his replacement, per an announcement by the team Tuesday morning.

At 6-6-5, the Islanders have been mediocre under Lambert during his second year as head coach, with struggling to hold onto leads and killing off penalties being chief among the team’s issues.

They snapped an eight-game losing streak with a shootout win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday, but the displeasure among fans in the team’s performance under Lambert’s watch had cemented itself long before then.

In the Islanders’ last home game, fans at UBS Arena loudly chanted “Fire Lambert” throughout the third period of a 4-1 loss to the Washington Capitals on Nov. 11.

Lambert was named the head coach of the Islanders on May 16, 2022, and put together a combined 48-37-14 record during his year and a half in charge.

The Islanders made the playoffs with 93 points in their first year with Lambert at the helm after he was promoted from assistant coach to replace Barry Trotz.

In a bit of poetic irony, Lambert is being replaced by his former assistant ___ .

The first game of the __ era will be tomorrow when the Islanders host the Philadelphia Flyers.
