It may have driven people mad to see Oliver Wahlstrom sit on the taxi squad or in the press box, but perhaps Lou Lamoriello and Barry Trotz were on to something by giving the young Islander some time before inserting him into the lineup.

Wahlstrom has appeared in 11 of the Islanders 18 games this season and has quickly become key contributor when he has been on the ice. His shot on Monday night set up Jean-Gabriel Pageau’s game-winning goal on the power play with under five minutes left in the game.

It’s become clear that the Islanders youngest player has had a massive boost in confidence since joining the roster on a consistent basis.
