“My objective is to simplify to the max everything we’re going to do on the ice,” Roy said. “I think repeating the same things over and over and thinking you’re going to have a different result would be foolish on my part.”

“There are things that we need to make some changes to,” Roy said. “I’m different than who was before me, and I do believe in what we do. I feel these are not complicated things. I think they’re simple, but it makes our team better. That’s the objective. It’s to help this team to be a better hockey team, period.”

We have grounded makeup and an opportunity in front of us to go do that. I think it’s fun getting back after a few days off and getting that mojo going again and the energy in the room.

We got to stay with it. We’re playing better hockey. I think you can see that, and we can feel it as players. It comes down to a little bit better timely scoring and keeping the puck out.

The communication is there and the preparation is there. We’ve spent a lot of time looking at all the little different areas that we’ve changed and addressed. It’s not going to come seamlessly. There’s going to be some hiccups, but I think we picked it up really well and implemented it right off the bat.

It’s just one game at a time. For us as players, you just focus on each day and finding a way to win. Some days, you’re going to play great and win or sometimes you’re likely to lose as well. But other times, you might not play so well and you find a way to win.

I think the most important thing that we’re trying to establish is the way we play under Patrick. We’ve done a pretty good job with that, but we still need the results. We’re hoping those will come for us, and it really just boils down to picking up points, getting wins and moving on to the next day.

Process is always important. You want to play the right way every night. No matter what you do in life, you’re always trying to find consistency and excellence in what you’re doing to give yourself the best chance to be successful. But for whatever reason, if you have a bad night and you pick up two points, you’re not exactly upset about it either.

We need points and we need to win. Patrick’s very keen on us playing the right way and his way, and we’ve been successful inside of that. We haven’t gotten the result. The process is very important, but we certainly need the result.
