Prior to puck drop between the New York Islanders and the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, defenseman Zdeno Chara was honored for breaking the record for most games played by a defenseman in NHL history. The 44-year old passed Chris Chelios back on Feb. 24 against the San Jose Sharks in San Jose, as he played in his 1,652 NHL game.

Chara’s wife, Tatiana Biskupičová, along with his three children,  Elliz, Zack, Ben, joined Chara on the ice for the ceremony.

Teammates, past and present, congratulated Zdeno Chara on his achievements.
