I think highly of this group. I know I repeat myself a lot, they’ve been very resilient. Down the stretch, we had to be because we had to find a way to make the playoffs. We went to [10-3-1] in our last 14 games. Our guys finished a season very strongly and managed to be ready for every game.
We did a lot of good things. I thought that was by far our best game [this series] with puck possession in the O-zone. We brought the puck behind the net, we climbed the wall and we brought the puck to the net, but I think we could have even more net presence.
We have no choice. We cannot think of more than one game at a time. We have our backs against the wall, so we need to focus on tomorrow. That’s all we can do and then let’s see where we are at after the game.
It’s been part of our mindset. We want to be calm. We want to make sure that we are positive. We want to make sure that we play with energy. We want to make sure we play together. We want to make sure we play fast. We know what brings success to us, and when we do those things well, I’m not saying it guarantees you a win, but we know we’re going to have a good game.

We did a lot of good things last game. I think it’s just a matter of, again, burying our opportunities. Obviously, [Andersen] made some pretty crazy saves last game that obviously could have went a different way for us, but we just got to keep peppering him with shots and bury our opportunities when we get them.
He’s such a big and positionally sound goaltender. I think if we can get him moving a little bit side to side or get a little more traffic in front of him so he can’t see it as much, it’ll definitely help us out.
It’s obviously in the back of your mind, but there have been teams who’ve overcome this in the past. We have such a resilient group here. Everybody still believes that we can do this. I mean, we should. We’ve proven it all year that every time we’ve been counted out or are down, we just found a way to overcome that and prove people wrong and improve ourselves right. We just got to start by getting this win and going from there.
I really like MacLean’s game. He’s got a lot of speed. He’s really smart with the puck, and he’s good at both ends of the rink, too. He and Casey have a lot of similar characteristics, with their work ethic and how they hunt pucks and stuff like that. Both of them have been great for us.

Use that emotion [from the first three games] for motivation and perseverance, but at the same time, what’s done is done…It’s a little bit of a combination of both because we can’t control what happened. We know the results and why and how and all that stuff. But there’s no doubt we have to rise to the occasion and do whatever it takes to win a hockey game.
It’s going to be a gauntlet regardless, but really we just got to get the first one tomorrow and go from there. We can’t win two, three or four right now. All we can do is get our minds right, get our bodies ready and come in tomorrow and play a good hockey game and go from there. After that, it’ll be the same thing. I think that mindset, everyone is taking it game by game and day by day at this point.
