Well, it appears everyone is coming out of their summer slumbers. The New Jersey Devils inked a couple of PTOs. An actual trade of substance happened. And now, we’re hearing more and more about Connor McDavid and the lack of a contract, what drama it might stir up, and his questionable future in Edmonton. In contrast to McDavid, Kirill Kaprizov and Minnesota might break ground on a “bar raising” deal.

Sportsnet: It had been rumored for a few days, and now it’s finally happened. Carey Price’s career is over, however, his bloated contract was traded on Friday to the San Jose Sharks. What’re they planning to do with the $4.57 million they just freed up?

Montreal Hockey Now: Well, according to Marc Dumont, the Price trade leads to plenty of opportunity for the Montreal Canadiens.

San Jose Hockey Now: So, from the San Jose Sharks angle, why did they acquire Price? What was the incentive? Sheng Peng breaks it down.

The Athletic ($): At this point, Edmonton Oilers fans are beginning to worry. Connor McDavid isn’t shying away from his uncertain future. Every time he speaks about his next contract, he emphasizes he only gets one career, and he wants to win, casting a hint of doubt on a potential extension.

Sportsnet: Speaking of big name free agents who need a contract next summer, reports are suggesting the Minnesota Wild and Kirill Kaprizov are nearing an agreement on an extension that could “raise the bar.”
