NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

It never felt quite right that the Devils let go of Kevin Labanc after he showed well on his PTO in New Jersey. Yet, they did, and he signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He didn’t light the world on fire in Ohio, scoring just two goals and 12 points in 34 games. However, it felt like he might have been building some momentum with the Devils before they let him go.

Alas, he sought another NHL job this summer, and signed a PTO with another Devils rival.

The Athletic ($): Tage Thompson was left off Team USA’s 4 Nations roster. Yet, he turned that spurn into motivation, and became USA’s hero this summer at Worlds. After scoring 44 goals last season, and an eventful summer in red, white, and blue, the Buffalo Sabres forward is now an Olympic roster hopeful.

San Jose Hockey Now: In a sudden, surprising development, Ryan Clowe has stepped down as assistant general manager of the San Jose Sharks. He and the team released a statement on the uncertain situation.

Vegas Hockey Now: Jack Eichel is one of the many big names who are set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. However, there’s talk he won’t go unsigned as soon as this fall. Here’s the latest on the Vegas Golden Knights star.

Montreal Hockey Now: Calder Trophy winner and budding star Montreal Canadiens defenseman, Lane Hutson, was left off the Team USA orientation roster. His father let his frustrations be known publically.
