Hockey is officially back with games being played, even if they’re just exhibition. The New Jersey Devils were one of those teams to kick off the September hockey, and we have a few highlights down below for you.

In the links, Nico Hischier evidently had a big summer. The “too small” narrative won’t hold up much longer. Seamus Casey could have a big year, and the Hockey Canada acquitted are going to be reinstated.

Elsewhere, Alexander Georgiev gets another chance, Pittsburgh rookies to watch, and Michael Misa is already impressing.

New Jersey Hockey Now: What small-sized narrative? Via Elliotte Friedman, who saw Nico Hischier on the NHL’s European Players Tour, the Devils captain looks “massive.”

Daily Faceoff: In case you were wondering, Seamus Casey is still a rookie. He didn’t meet the games played requirement to technically be in his sophomore season in 2025-26. Steven Ellis named one prospect to watch for all 32 teams, and believes the Devils defenseman will be in the Calder Trophy race.

More NJHN: According to a report, and then the NHL confirmed, the 2018 Hockey Canada acquitted, including ex-Devils Michael McLeod and Cal Foote, are to be reinstated to the NHL.

The Athletic ($): In a 2021 re-draft, Luke Hughes—originally drafted fourth overall—moves up the board, according to Cory Pronman.

The Devils rookies defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets rookies in the first of three games as part of the prospect challenge in Buffalo yesterday. The physical Jackets couldn’t match the speed of the Devils, who defeated Columbus 8-2. There were a number of standouts, namely Shane LaChance and Mikael Diotte. Seamus Casey looked a step above, too. And Ethan Edwards was a solid, physical presence. Here are a few highlights:
