Jack posted five goals and one assist in four games, leading the Devils (8-1-0, 16 points) to extend their winning streak to eight games and claim the top spot in the NHL standings. Hughes tied for the League lead in goals with Mark Scheifele and Shane Pinto, amassing 8 goals through nine games this season (8-4—12).
On October 21, Hughes recorded his third career hat trick in a 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jesper Bratt assisted on all three goals. He did not register a point in the Devils’ 4-1 victory against the Minnesota Wild on October 22. On October 24, he provided the primary assist on the game-winning goal in a 3-1 win over the San Jose Sharks. Hughes closed the week on October 26 with two goals, including his ninth career overtime winner, in a 4-3 comeback against the Colorado Avalanche, assisted by Simon Nemec, who recorded three assists in the contest.
Selected first overall in the 2019 NHL Draft, the 24-year-old center continues to drive the Devils’ early-season success. His eight goals in nine games place him among the NHL’s top scorers, showcasing his elite offensive skill. Hughes’ performance against Toronto highlighted his ability to dominate, while his clutch overtime goal against Colorado underscored his value in high-pressure moments. The Devils’ eight-game winning streak, dating back to October 11, reflects Hughes’ impact as a key offensive leader. His contributions have positioned New Jersey as a formidable force in the 2025-26 season, with Hughes leading the charge. As the Devils aim to maintain their momentum, Hughes’ scoring touch and playmaking ability will remain critical to their pursuit of a deep playoff run.
Hughes was named the third star of the week, behind Macklin Celebrini (first star), and Logan Cooley (second star).
Hughes received offseason shoulder surgery this summer and is primed for a comeback season with the Devils who are looking to solidify themselves as a Stanley Cup contender.
