After the New Jersey Devils dropped their first preseason game of training camp, Arseny Gritsyuk couldn’t help but smile.
He showed well in his first taste of an NHL game, scoring a goal and two points on six shots. After I notified him of the number of shots he recorded, he had a great reaction to it.
Mentioned to Gritsyuk he had six shots on goal today.

Elsewhere, Brad Marchand talks Boston contract fall out, some Pittsburgh Arena drama, and more.
Let’s do that hockey.
Devils Trade Rumors & News
New Jersey Hockey Now: We’re officially underway in the NHL preseason, and Game 1 for the Devils was… chaotic. However, there were still some positive standouts, amid some bad performances. Here’s why Arsney Gritsyuk stood out, and a few others.
The Athletic ($): We haven’t seen Simon Nemec in game action just yet. Perhaps, that’ll be on Tuesday, when the Devils host the New York Islanders in preseason action. It’s certainly something to look forward to as the young blueliner has had a stellar training camp to this point, and has been coined a “breakout candidate” by most.

Boston Hockey Now: This was from a few days ago, but I personally missed it. Brad Marchand explained why contract talks with the Boston Bruins fell apart, despite both sides having a common goal.
San Jose Hockey Now: The San Jose Sharks are going to be a problem, and perhaps it could be sooner than later. They’ve had a number of impressive rookies at training camp this September, and they’re all considered some of their best in the pipeline. (+)
Philly Hockey Now: It’s been a tough stretch over the last several weeks as we lost some hockey legends. Yesterday was no different as the Philadelphia Flyers revealed the passing of Bernie Parent.
Chicago Hockey Now: Connor Bedard opened up about his contract negotiations as he’s now officially in the final year of his entry-level deal. He called the negotiations, “Pretty chill.” More here on the Chicago Blackhawks superstar.
