Back like we never left! The New Jersey Devils host their rival, the New York Rangers, in the first preseason matchup of 2025-26!
You won’t see your typical Devils lineup, as head coach Sheldon Keefe weeds through his contenders for the NHL roster, and pretenders.
You will, however, see a few exciting names in the lineup. We’ll get our first look at the anticipated KHL-import, Arseniy Gritsyuk. We’ll also see how much Seamus Casey has developed after his first taste and a full summer of training. And then there’s Ethan Edwards, who has gained the attention of the Devils’ head coach, and is pushing to perhaps make the opening night roster.
The Rangers’ lineup has few of their regulars as well. But, you will see a familiar name in Justin Dowling in a new sweater.
It’s the very beginning of a long, but what should be a fun, season ahead.

What to Know Devils Preseason
The Devils open their 2025-26 campaign with a preseason contest against the New York Rangers.
–Jersey’s team is scheduled to play seven preseason games, which includes a split-squad on September 28.
–The Devils will host Washington on September 28, and then another squad travels to Quebec City to face-off against Ottawa.
