New Jersey Devils franchise forward Jack Hughes took a nasty spill on Friday night. It forced him out of the game after the first period against the St. Louis Blues and he didn’t return. There was no update provided from the team other than he’d be reevaluated. On Saturday, Sportsnet Elliotte Friedman provided a vague update on the Devils franchise forward.

Friedman spoke on Hockey Night in Canada providing an update on Hughes. He the. Took to social media for those that might have missed it.

“No official update on Jack Hughes, but word is that, thankfully, a worst-case scenario has been avoided,” Friedman writes. “Will miss some time, but not as bad as it could have been.”

It’s a good news bad news situation. Hughes will miss some time but things could have been worse. Now, it’s wait and see on an update from the team on just how long the Devils will be without their No.1 center.

It’s unfortunate timing for New Jersey. They’re already without captain Nico Hischier and their top six has taken a pretty big hit. It’s especially unfortunate for Hughes as he was well on his way to a career year.

Fortunately, New Jersey can still ice elite talent like Jesper Bratt and Timo Meier to hopefully keep them afloat.

In the absence of Hughes and Hischier, New Jersey has recalled center Max Willman from AHL Utica.
