Darren Dreger offered a quasi-update in regard to the potential solution for Montreal’s injury woes. According to Dreger, the Canadiens continue to perform due diligence on the trade market, but price tags are inflated because of the lack of available talent.

“I look at the Montreal Canadiens,” said Darren Dreger on TSN Insider Trading. “The Canadiens are one of those teams that are scouring the league, they are looking for the right fit up front, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a centre, we know Kent Hughes covets a No.1 centre, but he’s just looking for help up front. The problem is there are so few sellers, the prices are high.”

There is one relatively interesting player available on waivers, Pittsburgh Penguins forward Philip Tomasino. The winger was selected 24th overall in 2019, and could help solve some short-term roster problems. John Beecher, a left-handed centre, was claimed by the Calgary Flames on Tuesday afternoon. Given the waiver-wire priority list, which currently has the Flames at the front of the line, the Canadiens wouldn’t have been able to claim Beecher regardless of their interest level [First-Round Pick Available To Canadiens On Waivers]

ICYMI: The Canadiens are “in the conversation” when it comes to the rumours involving Nashville Predators forward Steven Stamkos. While it would be fun to see Stamkos wearing a Habs jersey, his teammate, Ryan O’Reilly, would a better fit when discussing potential trade targets. Lane Hutson is known for having a decent game here and there, but his performance versus the Columbus Blue Jackets may have been his best outing of the year from a statistical standpoint, and that’s saying something.

The Canadiens returned defenceman Marc Del Gaizo to the Laval Rocket. The Habs do not play until Thursday, whereas the Rocket are in action on Wednesday night, facing the Syracuse Crunch at Place Bell. [Canadiens]

We’re halfway through November, and there’s already plenty of discussion on the NHL trade front this season. The New Jersey Devils have been mentioned plenty, and with their latest development, perhaps they should get ahead of things early. The brutal Jack Hughes news was certainly unwelcomed. It could have been worse, but it’s not ideal regardless. [New Jersey Devils]

We’re just 10 games into the NCAA season, and it has become clear that Porter Martone is the real deal. He is making an early case for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the best player in NCAA Hockey. [Philadelphia Flyers]

Fan-favourite New York Giants rookie Cam Skattebo will miss the rest of his first NFL season due to a badly dislocated ankle that required surgery. However, he was busy the last few days and went viral on Monday for a moment that may have risked further damaging his surgically repaired joint. [Sportsnaut]
