One of the more noteworthy plays of the Seattle Seahawks’ Week 13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles came when Russell Wilson appeared to get away with an illegal forward pass.
But astrophysicist Neil deGrasse-Tyson saw the play differently. He came to the defense of Wilson and running back Mike Davis.
FYI: The lateral that @DangeRussWilson threw to @MikeDavisRB in Sunday’s @Seahawks @Eagles game was a legit “Galilean Transformation”. In their reference frame, the ball went backwards. It’s not their fault they ran forward faster than the ball. pic.twitter.com/DHUKNtlcyj

Well, you learn something new every day.
Hearing this, it’s even more upsetting that Doug Pederson didn’t challenge the play. It would have been quite hilarious to hear Tony Corrente say “Upon further review, the play stands due to Galilean Transformation.”
It would have been even better to hear Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth try to explain it.
Oh, well. Maybe next time.
