New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has always been a passionate competitor on the field. But he sounded calm and cool while joking around a bit during the Patriots championship week news conference on Wednesday.
Brady explained why a different personality is necessary on the playing field (via NFL.com).
I’m not sure. It’s an emotional game and I need to be emotional out there to play at my highest. I try to rest up all week, and I’m actually pretty mellow most of the time, as you guys know, it’s just for those three hours on Sunday that you get to let it rip. Which is when I think you get to be yourself.
I kind of always can find a way to bring it back to balance however I need to be. I don’t ever lose track of plays, things I need to do to coordinate our offense, you know when we’re on the field. I just think the emotional part is a really important part for me and I think that’s always been a part of the way I play.
We have surely seen Brady’s emotional side on the field, especially when the Patriots are down or when Brady has thrown an interception. This Sunday has Brady playing in his ninth AFC Championship game, which is a notable achievement for quarterback in his 15th season. If passion and emotion are what Brady claims drive him to such success, then he’s got the right formula.
