Nearly a year after he first suffered an injury in an accident, Seattle Seahawks’ defensive lineman Malik McDowell and the No.35 overall pick in 2017 has now been released with the non-football injury designation.
In another expected, but significant move: The #Seahawks waived defensive end Malik McDowell, former second rounder, with the non-football injury designation prior to the start of training camp Thursday.

The injuries suffered in the 2017 ATV accident were reportedly career-threatening. The 22-year-old’s status with the team was put even more doubt after we learned he was arrested in December for disorderly conduct.
Earlier this offseason it was reported that the Seahawks were expected to cut ties with McDowell. Now the move has become official as the organization moves on from a player many had high hopes for when they drafted him.
Seattle can now close the door on an unfortunate chapter that never even got started. It now appears McDowell, one of the most talented defensive players in his draft class, may never play a down in the NFL.
