This is somewhat surprising news, just given the fact that Hackenberg didn’t last more than three weeks in Oakland before Jon Gruden realized he couldn’t do anything with the quarterback.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Patriots aren’t expected to sign Hackenberg on Thursday but he could be an option going forward.
The former second-round pick has yet to make an appearance in a regular-season game and has been atrocious during both training camps and preseason games. His NFL future is very much in doubt.
