The Seattle Seahawks defense will get a big test in the team’s Week 6 showdown against Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and the Atlanta Falcons. Nobody knows this more than coach Pete Carroll.
“Their offense is just out of this world right now,” Carroll said, per Sheil Kapadia of ESPN. “Their quarterback is on fire.”
Carroll couldn’t be more on the money here. Atlanta is averaging better than 457 yards per game, which is the NFL’s top total. The Dallas Cowboys — the second best team — check in at 397. The Falcons are also leading the league with 35 points per game. The San Diego Chargers are the only other team above 30, averaging 30.4.
When looking at Atlanta’s individual players, it’s not hard to see why the team’s offense is so impressive.
Ryan’s 1,740 passing yards lead the NFL and his 12 touchdown passes are second only to Ben Roethlisberger. The Falcons’ quarterback also has thrown only two interceptions.
Jones is third in receiving yards, but is only two yards behind NFL leader Marvin Jones. Additionally, Jones is only one game removed from a monster 300-yard performance.
Devonta Freeman is eighth in the league with 410 rushing yards. Fellow running back Tevin Coleman has caught 17 passes for 313 yards, the latter being one of the NFL top-3o totals.
The Legion of Boom has certainly handled its share of explosive offenses over the last five seasons. But the Seahawks’ defenders will definitely have to bring their A-games to CenturyLink Field on Sunday.
Strength versus strength. It should be a blast.
