It’s not too often that a player selected within the first three rounds of the NFL Draft is released before playing a single game. Unfortunately for former Troy offensive tackle Tony Garcia, he’s on that rather short list.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the New England Patriots have released the 2017 third-round pick with a non-football injury designation.

Garcia, 24, missed his entire rookie season due to blood clots in the lungs. It was noted just a couple months ago that he was expected to make a full recovery.

It’s not yet known what transpired between then and now.
For the Patriots, this is somewhat of a massive blow. The team lost offensive tackles Nate Solder and Cameron Fleming in free agency. They’re now expected to rely on the recently acquired Trent Brown to start at left tackle in front of Tom Brady.
